The
Professional Engineers Registration Board was established to implement
the provisions of the Professional Engineers Registration Act of
1987 including its supplements and regulations. It serves to regulate
the profession of engineering in Jamaica for the benefit of the
profession and the public which utilizes the services of engineers.
The object is to ensure that all those registered as Professional
Engineers in Jamaica have an acceptable background of training and
experience and are capable of performing as engineers within their
field of specialty.
FUNCTIONS
The functions of PERB are:
- To
maintain a Registrar of all Professional Engineers and Authorized
Engineering Organizations in Jamaica and to issue Seals and annual
practicing Certificates. Applicants for registration are examined
by the Board and, if acceptable, are duly registered
- To
ensure that Professional Engineers sign, seal and date all final
drawings, reports and other engineering documents issued to second
parties.
- To
ensure that organization carrying out or approving engineering
works accept only drawings, reports and engineering documents
bearing the seal and signatures of a Professional Engineer.
- To
examine all companies against Professional Engineers for non-professional
conduct and to take disciplinary action as necessary.
- To
take action against all persons or organizations purporting to
practice engineering in breach of the Act.
